ALS Learning Strands

Strand 1

Learning Strand 1 (LS1) is Communication skills. Its primary focus is to make ALS learners effective communicators. After the interventions, the learners are expected to develop the skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They should be able to express their ideas, feelings in both written and spoken languages and they should be able to understand different reading materials and media appropriate to their level.

Strand 2

Learning Strand 2 (LS2) is Scientific Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills. This strand will help learners think critically and solve problems they encounter in their daily life. Its purpose is to help learners improve their own life and the people around them, their communities and the country as a whole. To be able to do this, the lessons were designed in such a way that it follow processes from simple to complex.

Strand 3

Learning Strand 3 (LS3) is Mathematical and Problem Solving Skills. This strand is aimed at developing learners that can understand and able to solve Mathematics problems at a level of a 17 year old. With these knowledge and skills learners will be able to make critical and informed decisions in their daily life.

Strand 4

Learning Strand 4 (LS4) is Life and Career Skills. It aims to improve the economic status of the learners and reduce poverty. Its focus is to help improve the earning abilities of learners in employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship. It helps them develop their ability to earn a living, save and conserve resources and become productive citizens.

Strand 5

This Learning Strand 5 (LS5) is Understanding the Self and Society. It is intended to help ALS learners acquire a positive sense of self and social responsibility. It helps learners to develop their potential individually and understand how they fit in and contribute to the development of the family community, country, region and the world as a whole.

Strand 6

Learning Strand 6 (LS6) is Digital Citizenship. It aims to develop learners understand the concepts of ICT, its uses and how it affects their lives, performance of jobs, businesses and how the society functions in the midst of the ITC-driven era. It also helps them function effectively in a 21st century setting where computers, mobile devices and social meadia are the driving force of societies and businesses.
